CareWell, a New York-based Medicare Advantage Institutional Special Needs Plan (I-SNP), now covers virtual reality (VR) therapy for nursing home residents. Its parent organization, AgeWell New York, partnered with MyndVR to lease 15 VR headsets and five tablets. Financial terms were not disclosed. CareWell’s coverage went live on January 1, 2023.
The VR therapy is covered as a CareWell supplemental benefit for its I-SNP members in five skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The therapy is intended to stimulate memory and promote brain health. AgeWell anticipates that the sessions may also reduce the users’ need for psychotropic medications . . .
