High School Students Increasingly Report Feelings Of Persistent Sadness & Hopelessness

In 2021, 42% of all high school students, including 57% of girls and 29% of boys, said that feelings of sadness or hopelessness prevented them from engaging in their regular activities for at least two weeks of the year. The percentage of high school students in distress has increased over the past decade. In 2011, 28% of high school students reported persistent sadness or hopelessness, which included 36% of girls and 21% of boys.
