Autism Rates Reach 2.2% Among Four-Year-Olds In 2020

According to surveillance data collected by the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network sites in 11 states, it’s estimated that approximately 2.2% of four-year-old children in the United States have autism (a 62% increase over a four-year span). In 2016, there were 13.4 cases per 1,000 four-year-old children, rising to 17.0 in 2018 and rising again to 21.5 cases in 2020.
