Los Angeles Mayor Proposes $250-Million Expansion Of ‘Inside Safe’ Homelessness Reduction Program

On April 18, 2023, Los Angeles, California Mayor Karen Bass released a proposed city budget that includes $250 million to expand Inside Safe, her signature program to move unhoused homeless people into hotel and motel rooms and provide them with supportive services. The funding is part of a larger investment of $1.3 billion for housing and homelessness programs in the city. The mayor’s budget proposal must be approved by the city council. The city’s budget year starts July 1.

The Inside Safe expansion includes the following:

$110 million for motel rooms/temporary housing
$62 million for services . . .
