Buprenorphine Start Rates Stuck At 15 Per 100,000 From 2019 Through 2022

The percentage of Americans who filled buprenorphine prescriptions at a retail pharmacy to initiate treatment for opioid addiction remained flat from 2019 through 2022, at about 15 starts per month per 100,000 population. Between January 2016 and September 2018, the monthly fill rate for treatment initiation rose 62%, from 12.5 to 15.9 per 100,000. From October 2018 through October 2022, the monthly buprenorphine initiation rate hovered around 15 per 100,000.
