CMS Failed To Publicly Post Deficiencies For Two-Thirds Of Nursing Homes
Medicare's Care Compare site did not accurately reflect nursing home deficiencies in two-thirds of listings reviewed in an audit by a federal watchdog agency. The audit, conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) was based on a sample of 100 nursing homes and their Care Compare listings. Overall, the OIG audit found that there were unreported deficiencies relevant to the Care Compare listings for 67 nursing homes. The OIG extrapolated the rate of unreported deficiencies in the sample to all nursing homes nationwide.
