Most Hospitalizations Among People With Depression Are For Hospital-Treated Physical Health Problems

Most hospitalizations among people with depression are for chronic physical health problems: severe/moderately severe depression was associated with the incidence of 29 nonoverlapping conditions requiring hospital treatment during a five-year follow-up. The risk of hospitalization for the group of 29 conditions was 16.3 percentage points higher for people with severe or moderately severe depression compared to people without depression.
