Idaho Settles Lawsuit About State-Run Southwest Idaho Treatment Center, DisAbility Rights Idaho To Monitor
The State of Idaho settled a lawsuit regarding the state-run Southwest Idaho Treatment Center (SWITC) for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). In a settlement regarding care provided at the State agreed to pay the plaintiffs $1.2 million and to allow DisAbility Rights Idaho to monitor care and conditions at the facility.
The complaint was filed in 2018 by six families of SWITC residents. The plaintiffs alleged that the facility staff abused and neglected their family members. The lawsuit was filed after DisAbility Rights released its 2018 investigative report, “No Safe Place to Call Home, A Report . . .
