Monitoring High-Risk Sex Offenders With GPS Technology: An Evaluation of the California Supervision Program, Final Report

In 2008, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation adopted global positioning systems (GPS) technology to monitor high-risk sex offenders on parole. This analysis found that recidivism rates were three times lower for the parolees monitored via GPS than rates for those under traditional parole supervision. The GPS monitoring cost approximately $8.51 more per day than traditional parole supervision.
