Americans ‘Dangerously’ Underestimate Effects Of Health Care Costs & Challenges On Retirement Plans
The majority (84%) of currently working adults ages 45 to 75 do not expect declining health (their own or other family members) to be a primary reason for retiring, although 38% of those who have retired said they did so due to health reasons (either theirs or a loved one's). Furthermore, only 43% of those between ages 45 to 75 have protected income through a pension or annuity to support their future health care and retirement needs. However, 51% of financial professionals report that more clients are asking questions about health care, Medicare, and long-term care.
