9th Circuit Court of Appeals Ruling In J.H. v. Blue Shield of California

On June 5, 2012, a federal appeals court upheld an August 2011 decision requiring health plans in California to cover residential mental health treatment. The court's opinion stated that under California's Mental Health Parity Act health plans must cover residential mental health treatment. The lawsuit, J.H. v. Blue Shield of California, was filed when Blue Shield denied payment for residential treatment for anorexia nervosa.
