Medicaid Costs For Adults With Down Syndrome Four Times Higher Than Other Beneficiaries Without I/DD
Median Medicaid costs for adults with Down syndrome were 4.3 times higher than other beneficiaries without intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD), at $26,278 per person-year compared to $6,173 per person-year from 2011 through 2019. Average Medicaid costs for adults with Down syndrome were nearly 5.5 times higher, at $42,515 per person year compared to $7,545 per person year.
Those with Down syndrome also had four times as many claims per person-year (205 claims) than those without Down syndrome (52 claims), and spent more than five times as long in long-term . . .
