Prevalence Of Autism Among Adult Medicaid Beneficiaries Doubled From 0.4% In 2011 To 1% In 2019
As of 2019, nearly 1% of adult Medicaid beneficiaries had a diagnosis of autism, up from 0.4% in 2011. The incidence of autism subsequently grew from 4.2 per 1,000 enrollees in 2011 to 9.5 per 1,000 enrollees in 2019.
According to the analysis of Medicaid data, the largest increase of autism occurred in adults ages 25 to 34 years who had a 195% increase. In comparison, the increase among those ages 55 to 64 years was just 45%.
