1.5% Of Federal Prisoners Receive Medication-Assisted Treatment For Addiction Disorder
About 1.5% of the nearly 160,000 federal prisoners in custody of the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in 2022 received medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for addiction disorder. The percentage receiving MAT doubled from 0.7% in 2021 to 1.5% in 2022, and the number rose from 1,127 in 2021 to 2,412 persons in 2022. During the same period, the federal prison population increased about 1%, from 156,542 at year end 2021 to 158,637 at year end 2022.
