Hazelden Betty Ford To Present Webinar – “Elevating Whole-Person Addiction Care: How The Revised & Redesigned ASAM Criteria Improves Outcomes For Patients, Providers & Payers”

GETTYSBURG, PA (January 14, 2024) — OPEN MINDS and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation announced today an upcoming webinar aimed at helping health and human services providers utilize the newest edition of The ASAM Criteria® to elevate substance use disorder (SUD) care. The free, virtual webinar will be held January 23rd, 2024, from 1-2pm EST on the OPEN MINDS platform.

The ASAM Criteria is the most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for placement, continued stay, transfer, or discharge of patients with addiction and co-occurring conditions. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) recently revised it to reflect the current state of scientific research and evidence-based clinical practice.

The upcoming webinar, entitled Elevating Whole Person SUD Care: How The Revised & Redesigned ASAM Criteria Improves Outcomes For Patients, Providers & Payers, will discuss the importance of identifying and addressing co-occurring conditions in whole-person care, and the role of telehealth and other strategies to improve access and increase patient engagement. Attendees will learn how the changes empower healthcare professionals to confidently navigate the complex and evolving landscape of addiction, from assessment to treatment to recovery support.

“According to SAMHSA’s 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, approximately 21.5 million adults in the U.S. have a co-occurring disorder,” said Dr. Thomas Starling, Executive Vice President, OPEN MINDS. “It is critical that as providers of care we explore the transformative power of the updated ASAM Criteria for better patient outcomes, increased rates of care approval, and engagement that supports a patient’s physical, behavioral, emotional, and social well-being to succeed and thrive.”

Expert speakers and clinicians from the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s Consulting and Training Solutions team—Don Bartosik, LMFT, Master Clinical Trainer, and Joyce Starr, LSW, LICDC, Master Trainer Consultant—will share valuable insights into leveraging the latest edition of The ASAM Criteria to meet patient needs, ensure appropriate insurance approvals, and improve outcomes. Attendees will also get a firsthand look at the redesigned digital format of The ASAM Criteria. Informed by addiction professionals, the web-based resource makes it easier to access, use, and apply the standards for more effective clinical implementation.

The webinar is available free of charge thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hazelden Betty Ford. Attendees must register in advance to either participate live or receive on-demand access afterward.
