In 29 States, Pharmacists Can Prescribe Birth Control
In 28 states and the District of Columbia, pharmacists are permitted to prescribe or provide contraception without a doctor’s prescription, according to a state policy analysis by the Guttmacher Institute. The 28 states are Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.
