In First Year, OnPoint NYC Overdose Prevention Centers Averted 636 Overdose Deaths & Other Harms Of Illegal Drug Use

During its first year of operation, OnPoint NYC, which opened the first overdose prevention centers (OPC) in the United States that allow supervised use of illegal drugs, prevented 636 overdose deaths and other associated harms. OnPoint NYC’s two locations in Manhattan, New York opened in November 2021; they were used by 2,841 unique participants who visited the sites 48,533 times. About 83% of opioid overdoses were resolved by the OnPoint NYC site attendants without need for naloxone.
