San Francisco Simplifies Contracting Process For Mental Health & Addiction Treatment Beds To Reduce Wait Times

On February 13, 2024, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved legislation to simplify how the county procures public health beds for mental health and addiction treatment. For the next five years, the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) will be able to waive the county’s normal request for proposal (RFP) process to contract for beds for public health use in third-party facilities both in and outside of San Francisco County. The new beds will be used to rapidly create capacity to provide involuntary treatment for county residents with severe addiction disorder.
