Employer Spending On Mental Health Benefits Rose By 53% From 2019 To 2022
Between 2019 and 2022, among adults with employer-sponsored insurance, average monthly spending on mental health benefits per 10,000 beneficiaries increased by 53.7%. Utilization per 1,000 beneficiaries increased by 38.8%. During 2020, telehealth use for mental health treatment among commercially insured adults increased between 1500% to 2000%, depending on diagnoses. This offset the rapid decline of in-person care due to closures during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency (PHE).
