North Carolina To Invest $5.5 Million In Psychiatric & Physical Health Care Services For People In Reentry

On February 12, 2024, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) announced plans to invest $5.5 million to improve psychiatric and physical health services to state prisoners with serious mental illness (SMI) who are reentering the community after incarceration. The new funding will be for the Formerly Incarcerated Transition (FIT) Wellness program, which is part of the North Carolina FIT Program in the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine. The FIT program is generally focused on improving reentry services for justice-involved populations.
