CMS Changes Position, Allowing Hospitals To Coordinate Care By Text
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently changed its position on the use of text messages as a tool for hospital staff to coordinate care for consumers. Previously, CMS had not permitted the use of text messages for care orders. Starting March 9, 2024, texting consumer information and texting care orders among members of the consumer’s care team is permissible, although computerized provider order entry (CPOE) is still the preferred method for sharing care orders and information.
