The median prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) worldwide is 9.5%, with the highest prevalence (12.8%) in Eastern and Central Europe, according to an analysis of prevalence in 167 countries that comprise about 97.4% of the world population (representing 7.7 billion people). Kidney replacement therapies (KRT) were available in most countries. Hemodialysis was available in 98% of countries. Chronic peritoneal dialysis was available in 79% of countries. Kidney transplants were available in 70% of countries.
