Nearly 1% Of U.S. Adults Ages 21 To 40 Have Intellectual Disability

Nearly 1.07% of the U.S. population between ages 21 and 41 has an intellectual disability, representing 818,564 people. The estimate is based on data collected on children ages 3 through 17 years through the National Health Interview Survey waves conducted between 1980 and 1999. No national survey measures the prevalence of intellectual disability among adults.
