Medical Debt In U.S. Associated With Worse Physical & Mental Health

People with medical debt have worse physical and mental health according to an analysis of 2,943 U.S. counties that compared medical debt rates and self-reports of unhealthy days in the previous month. For each percentage point increase in medical debt for a county, the residents reported four times more physically unhealthy days and nearly four times more mentally unhealthy days. For each $100 increase in median medical debt in a county, the county residents reported nearly twice as many physically unhealthy days and one-third more mentally unhealthy days.
