New Mexico Expands Services For Youth Aging Out Of Foster Care
On March 14, 2024, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan signed an executive order directing the state Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD) to implement the Fostering Connections Program (FCP) expanded foster care program for youth ages 18 to 21 who age out of foster care. Through the program young adults will be eligible for assistance with housing, health care, and transportation. Additional benefits of the expansion also include instruction in financial literacy, caseworker guidance, and optional access to psychological counseling through CYFD.
The order is expected to add 20 young adults each year to the FCP who may not otherwise . . .
