Nearly 60% Of Medicaid Beneficiaries Reported To Child Protective Services Have Behavioral Health Disorders; Few Are Treated
More than half (59%) of Medicaid-eligible caregivers of children referred to child protective services (CPS) in Florida and Kentucky had a mental health or addiction disorder, but few received treatment. In comparison, about 33% of a control group of Medicaid beneficiaries not referred to CPS had behavioral health disorders. The prevalence of a mental health diagnosis was 1.6 times higher in the CPS population than the comparison group, at 45% compared to 28%.
