Adolescent Victimization Rate More Than Doubled Between 2021 & 2022
The rate at which youth ages 12 to 17 years who were victims of a non-fatal violent victimization doubled between 2021 and 2022, and essentially matched the 2018 rate. Non-fatal violent victimization includes rape or sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault and simple assault. The rate in 2021 was 13.2 per 1,000; in 2022, the rate rose to 27.4 per 1,000. In 2018, the rate was 34.2 per 1,000. Similar patterns were observed for persons ages 18 to 24 and those age 25 or older.
