HHS & DOJ EHR Fraud Warning Letter To Health Care Industry Organizations

The federal Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice issued a joint notice to the American Hospital Association, the Federation of American Hospitals, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Association of Academic Health Centers, and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems that the government intended to prosecute fraud facilitated by electronic health records (EHRs). The letter mentioned the following as fraud: upcoding, cloning records, and false documentation.
