Iowa HHS To Consolidate 32 Mental Health & Addiction Treatment Regions Into 7 Behavioral Health Districts
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is reorganizing its public behavioral health system to consolidate from 32 local mental health and addiction treatment regions to seven regional behavioral health districts. Each district will have a lead behavioral health administrative service organization (BH-ASO) and an advisory board to maintain strong local connections, and each district will be required to provide a standard set of core services to ensure consistent care systemwide. HHS intends to post the BH-ASO request for proposals by September 30, 2024, and select the BH-ASOs by December 31, 2024.
