Type 2 Diabetes Increased By Almost 20% Over A Decade
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes among adults in the continental United States increased by 18.6% between 2012 and 2022, with prevalence rising from 10.2% to 12.1%. The increase occurred in all sociodemographic groups. The prevalence in 2022 was highest, at 15.8%, among non-Hispanic Black individuals, rising from 13.5% in 2012, representing an increase of 17.2%. The increase in prevalence was steepest among non-Hispanic Asian individuals, rising from 7.9% in 2012 to 10.0% in 2022, representing an increase of 26.7%.
