Nebraska DHHS Reports Rise In Child Deaths

The number of child deaths in Nebraska required to be reported to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of Nebraska Child Welfare increased from 11 during fiscal year (FY) 2022-2023 to 21 in FY 2023-2024. Nebraska's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is required to report the deaths and serious injuries of children in out-of-home care, receiving services from the state agency, or in cases that have been subject to a child abuse investigation in the last year.
