Rates Of Liver Transplant Lowest In States With The Highest Rates Of Death Related To Liver Damage

States with the highest rates of deaths due to liver damage had the lowest rates of liver transplants in 2021. In states with the highest liver-related mortality (LRM), the transplant rate for organs from in-state residents was 13.0%. In states with the lowest LRM, the transplant rate was 32.5%.

Between 2018 and 2021, LRM increased by 19.1%, from 23.6 deaths per 100,000 people in 2018 to 28.1 deaths per 100,000 people in 2021. Across the states, LRM rates during 2021 ranged from 18.4 deaths per 100,000 individuals per year . . .
