On October 1, 2024, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) launched the Medicaid Justice-Involved Reentry Initiative in three counties– Inyo, Santa Clara, and Yuba. Through the initiative, Medicaid-eligible youth and adults in state prisons, county jails, and youth correctional facilities will offer a targeted suite of medical and mental health services during the 90 days before release to the community. The goal of the program is to ensure a smoother transition and improve overall well-being and public health outcomes for this population.
