Massachusetts Updates Its Subsidized Child Care Contracts To Prioritize Special Populations & Improve Performance Monitoring
On October 7, 2024, the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) awarded 110 child care provider organizations contracts to provide 19,000 subsidized slots for children eligible for financial assistance. The new contracts include provisions to improve the customer service experience for families, strengthen and align educator staffing and training requirements across programs, improve performance monitoring and effectiveness, and continue efforts to simplify rates for provider organizations. The state is introducing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a collaborative approach to monitor performance, program effectiveness, and compliance with core service requirements. This is the first reprocurement since 2009.
