Three-Fourths Of U.S. Adults Are Overweight Or Have Obesity
As of 2021, an estimated 75% (172 million) of U.S. adults were overweight or had obesity. The age-standardized prevalence for both conditions was 75.9% among men and 72.6% for women. The prevalence of overweight or obesity was highest in North Dakota for males, estimated at 80.6%, and in Mississippi for females at 79.9%.
Texas had the highest age-standardized prevalence of overweight or obesity for male adolescents (aged 15 to 24 years), at 52.4%. For female adolescents, Mississippi had the highest age-standardized prevalence of overweight or obesity, at 63.0%.
