Private Health Insurance Market Became Increasingly Concentrated Between 2011 & 2022

Between 2011 and 2022, the private health insurance market became increasingly concentrated such that by 2022 in 35 or more states no more than three insurers together held at least 80% of market share for individual and group employer markets. In the large group market, the number of states where 80% of market share was held by a single insurer doubled from six to 12.
