Maine Settles ADA Lawsuit, Will Increase Community-Based Behavioral Health Services For Children
On November 26, 2024, the state of Maine agreed to increase community-based behavioral health services for children. The settlement resolves a complaint filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on September 9, 2024. The complaint alleged violations to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) related to children’s access to community-based mental health services based on the DOJ’s investigation findings reported to the state in June 2022. The agreement includes compliance guidelines, deadlines, and performance targets for each type of services to be available for eligible populations
