42% of people between the ages of 55 and 95 will develop dementia—that's more than two in five people over the age of 55. This is an updated prediction from a recent analysis, Lifetime Risk And Projected Burden Of Dementia.
But the overall statistics don’t tell the whole story. Older women have a higher overall risk of developing dementia in their lifetime than older men—about 48% compared with 35%.
