During 2023, 44% of working age adults (86.3 million people) had no health insurance, had a coverage gap during the year, or were covered by an unaffordable plan that left them underinsured. About 56% of U.S. working-age adults (about 110 million) were insured all year with coverage that was adequate to ensure affordable access to care.
