38% Of I/DD Provider Organizations Turned Away/Stopped Accepting Service Referrals In 2023 Due To Staffing Problems
On average, 38.1% of provider organization agencies turned away or stopped accepting new service referrals in 2023 due to direct support professional (DSP) staffing shortages. While seemingly high, this figure is down from 49.7% in 2022. The trend was noted in two annual surveys of organizations providing services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) called the NCI State of the Workforce for IDD.
