HRSN Cuts PMPM Costs By $85 For North Carolina Medicaid Participants
A North Carolina Medicaid pilot program to address beneficiary health related social needs (HRSN) resulted in reducing per member per month (PMPM) spending by $85 relative to expected spending in the absence of the services. The program, called the Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP), took place in three regions of the state. Starting in March 2022, beneficiaries in those regions were screened for HRSNs such as food insecurity, housing stability, access to transportation, living with interpersonal violence, and living with toxic stress.
