California Medicaid Fines 83% Of MCPs For Failure To Meet Quality Measures
The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) sanctioned 83% of the state’s Medicaid (Medi-Cal) managed care plans (MCPs) for failure to meet contractually required quality measures in 2023. Of the state’s 24 managed care plans, 83.3% were fined a total of $3.1 million. The individual sanctions for each MCP range from $25,000 (five MCPs) to $819,000 (Anthem Blue Cross Partnership Plan). The five MCPs assessed $25,000 are Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, CenCal Health, Central California Alliance for Health, Kaiser Southern California, and San Francisco Health Plan.
