The prevalence of diabetes among adults in the United States increased slightly between 2013 and 2023, but during this period glycemic control worsened. The trend data is from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for surveys conducted every two years over the decade. Between 2013 and 2020, about 54.3%, had glycemic control; this declined to 43.5% between 2021 to 2023. Between 2013 and 2020, average hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels were stable at about 7.31%. Between 2021 and 2023, HbA1c levels increased to 7.60%.
