Social Security Takes Action To Prevent Ineligible Residents From Obtaining Benefits
On April 16, 2025, the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that it will take additional action to prevent ineligible residents, including undocumented immigrants, from obtaining Social Security benefits. It is already illegal under existing law for someone not eligible for Social Security benefits to receive them.
On April 15, 2025, a presidential executive order directed the Secretary of Labor, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and the Commissioner of Social Security, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security as necessary, to take all reasonable measures to ensure ineligible individuals are not receiving funds from Social Security . . .
