Adults With Chronic Health Conditions Enrolled In High Deductible Health Plans Had Lower Use Of Evidence-Based Care
Adults ages 18 to 64 in the United States with chronic health conditions who were enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) had lower use of care that aligned with chronic care guidelines for asthma, diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, or major depressive disorder, according to a recent study. Those newly enrolled in an HDHP between 2016 and 2019 had fewer office visits, fewer laboratory tests, and filled fewer prescriptions than people who were not enrolled in an HDHP during the same period.
