Nearly 20% Of Texas School Districts Are Consistently Non-Compliant With IDEA Mandates
Of the nearly 1,200 school districts in Texas, roughly 230 or close to 20% are not meeting the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) annually, and about 15 to 25 school districts need substantial intervention, according to a recent analysis by the Texas Education Leadership Lab. Although the federal Department of Education determined that Texas met the IDEA requirements for the first time in a decade during the 2023 to 2024 school year, the new analysis concluded that the state is not delivering inclusive and effective education.
