Death Rates From Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease Doubled From 1999 To 2022

Death rates from alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) in the United States doubled from 1999 to 2022, rising from 6.71 deaths per 100,000 population in 1999 to 12.53 per 100,000 in 2022. ALD includes alcohol-associated hepatitis and alcohol-associated cirrhosis. The researchers found particularly concerning trends among women, younger adults, and American Indian and Alaska Native populations.
