Maine To Eliminate Planned Use Of Restraints For Adults With Developmental Disabilities
On June 12, 2025, Maine Governor Janet Mills signed legislation to eliminate the planned use of safety devices or restraints for adults with developmental disabilities. The practice calls for an individual to be restrained in certain circumstances to prevent the individual from doing something harmful to themselves or others, as indicated in an individual’s behavior management plan.
