The percentage of median household income spent on health insurance premiums ranges from 4% in New Hampshire to 19.6% in neighboring Vermont, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The national median is 7.8% of median household income spent for health insurance premiums for the 50 states (not including the District of Columbia).

The health insurance premium estimates are for “silver tier” health insurance coverage, which is the benchmark for plans sold in the state and federal Health Insurance Marketplaces. ;
