Pennsylvania General Acute Care Hospitals Report Operating Income Growth To $66 Billion In FY2024, But 37% Show Negative Operating Margins
In fiscal year (FY) 2024, the average operating margin for Pennsylvania general acute care hospitals increased from 2.3% in FY 2023 to 6.8%, according to a recent analysis of the state’s hospital data.
Findings include:;
Uncompensated care (bad debt and charity care) increased 19.8%, from $774 million in FY23 to $927 million in FY24.;
The percentage of uncompensated care to net patient revenue increased from 1.38% in FY23 to 1.52% in FY24.
